These pieces originate from hand painted fruit & vege signs that I have documented throughout various markets & stalls, then re-composed to produce my own layered sign boards, picking out bits & pieces from each sign. When the unique, imperfect and quickly hand-painted words are bought together in a structured & layered composition, it is only then that we see the beauty in the inadvertent ‘drybrushing', layering, rubbing back, painting over, and completely free & practical expression of these sign boards - ironically, these are many of the techniques that artists use today!
