Food Designer - Wellington
Unna is a self taught home cook, wife and mum. She grew up being surrounded by good cooks, living on a farm in rural New Zealand - so there was always that connections to food. Home kill meats, huge vegetable gardens, chickens. She had a pretty 'free range' type of childhood.
Unna now has herself 11 heritage breed chickens that give her multi-coloured eggs, organic gardens and 38 bee hives. She had taught herself how to cook, style and photograph food. When she was putting her book together, Unna drew inspiration from family, nostalgia and simply...what they love to eat. She is convinced that if you love good food you will learn to cook well. The thing that makes her work different from other bloggers, cooks or chefs, is her styling and the way Unna captures her food images in a fresh and modern way. Unna loves to photography on white, using handmade ceramics from her friend Wundaire, and she just styles images until they 'look right'.
Unna's favourite things to do is work for magazines - cooking, styling and photographing food articles, styling shoots for other companies and she has also been going around the country teaching her food styling and oganizes food photography workshops.
