Homeware Designer / Auckland, Fiji
Archie was founded in the winter of 2015 by my husband and me. We are from New Zealand but have chosen the slow life, currently residing in beautiful Fiji for a few years for Jono's work.
I finished a Bachelor of Commerce in Marketing and went on to work in an office job which I realised wasn't really me. I've always wanted to venture out on my own and moving to Fiji for Jono's work gave me the time and opportunity for that. (Along with time to start Yoga, join a bookclub, exercise, read and relax more)
In New Zealand and in Fiji we love to picnic but were always on the lookout for a cool blanket. It’s from here that Archie was born. Our plan with Archie is to start small and dream big. We are only making a very limited first batch of blankets this summer and aim to build from there, incorporating additional well designed and thought out picnic necessities as they evolve. Our blankets will always have a good looking print but also the practicality of a PVC bottom to keep picnic goers clean and dry. At the moment tassels will always be incorporated as I like the fun and fancy feel they give to the blankets.
We have been inspired by the changing theme in small business lately which puts an emphasis on generosity. Companies like ‘Eat my lunch’ and ‘Frank Stationery’ have challenged us to want to do more than make a profit with Archie. We are in talks with a local Fijian boarding school and are working towards a way of helping them with every Archie picnic blanket sold. We’ve worked closely with SYMBIOSIS TEXTILES on the first two blanket designs and are meticulous about the finer details.
